A loving husband, an amazing father and an awesome “Tata” transitioned into heaven on Sunday, March 31st at 10:25 am at Little Company of Mary Hospital in the city of Torrance. He had been combatting Parkinson’s disease.
Tata is survived by his adoring wife of 59 years, Rosario; his three children Fernando, Rosan and Michael; his son-in-law; Steve; daughter-in-law, Loretta; his three grandchildren Damien, Brenden and Krystal Johnson, as well as Damien’s wife, Julie.
Tata was fortunate enough to have lived a fulfilled and productive life where he was deeply loved and respected by his family; he was our patriarch. Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, he arrived to the United States on a professional soccer contract where he played in Chicago, Illinois. He signed up to serve our Country and was a very proud Marine who fought in the Korean War. He was a linotype operator at Jeffrey’s Banknote Company and received US government clearance to print US currency. His spelling of the English language was perfect.
Our father married the love of his life, Rosario Cesena (Nana), in Tecate, Mexico in 1959 and had three children. The immense love and respect we had for our father is immeasurable.
He became involved in real estate and later went on to become a California Real Estate Broker, as well as the President of the Montebello Board of Realtors. He formed Hermi Real Estate, as well as Real Estate Services International. Our father was very much involved with clients from Mexico and expanded his real estate practice into Guadalajara, Mexico. He assisted various Mexican personalities and politicians with their real estate investments. Fernando Valenzuela, President Miguel Aleman, Juan Gabriel and others sought his advice and expertise.
He was a pillar in the Mexican community in Los Angeles where he chaired various charitable organizations such as La Casa del Mexicano; Los Hambriados; and Comite Mexicano Civico Patriotico. These organizations promoted Mexican culture and provided assistance to orphanages based in Jalisco, Mexico.
Our father left his home in Rolling Hills Estates on Saturday the 23rd of March via the assistance of emergency response teams and was placed in ICU. After receiving the priest’s final blessings and his wife and family’s final kiss goodbye, God descended upon him on Sunday the 31st of March and lifted him away from earth up to heaven.
We will miss you, but we know this is not goodbye, rather a see you later.
