It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lucy Sung, who left us on March 23, 2025, in Los Angeles at the age of 69. Her death marks the end of a vibrant life filled with love and resilience.
She was born on December 30, 1955, in Seattle, Washington at Virginia Mason Hospital, to Martin and Jane Chiang. As a young girl, she moved to Taipei to live with her grandmother, returning to the United States in time to graduate from Westchester High School in 1974. After high school at 19 years old, Lucy began her professional journey at UCLA Medical Center, where she met her lifelong friend, Susan Nakamura. It was also around this time that Lucy began to discover her passion for telecommunications, an industry that would shape the course of her career. Lucy earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from California State University, Los Angeles, in 1981, and shortly after, began her career at AT&T Telecommunications.
On June 2, 1982, Lucy married the love of her life, Baven Sung. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, love, and a shared commitment to their family. Lucy was the proud mother of two sons, Ryan and Steven, who were her greatest treasures. Her love for them knew no bounds, and she poured every ounce of her heart into raising them. Balancing her successful career with her role as a devoted wife and mother, Lucy embodied strength and an unshakable commitment to the people she loved.
Throughout her career, Lucy held several senior leadership positions in telecommunications companies. Standing at just 4’10” tall, Lucy was often underestimated as an Asian American woman in the corporate world, but she used these challenges to fuel her determination. Lucy’s rise through the ranks of telecommunications was nothing short of legendary. She became a trailblazer, fiercely advocating for herself and others, mentoring countless individuals, and ensuring that those around her had the opportunity to succeed.
Most recently, she served as Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) at TruConnect, where she had worked since 2016. In her role, Lucy ensured that the company operated efficiently and with integrity. She worked closely with senior leadership to craft strategies that aligned with TruConnect’s goals while maintaining the highest ethical standards. Lucy’s commitment to her work and her vision made her an invaluable asset to the company.
Outside of her professional life, Lucy had many passions. She was a true fashionista and loved shopping. Some would even say that she was a professional shopper and treated shopping like a sport. Lucy’s love for travel took her to many parts of the world, but her favorite was Tokyo. She adored the food, culture, and, of course, the shopping. She also had a special place in her heart for Disney, especially family vacations with Disney Vacation Club at Walt Disney World. Her favorite ride was “It’s a Small World,” a reflection of her love for travel and for connecting with all types of people.
Lucy is survived by her devoted husband, Baven Sung; her two beloved sons, Ryan and Steven Sung; her father, Martin Chiang; and her siblings, Virginia Huang and Mason Chiang. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and resilience. But more than her accomplishments, it was her fierce loyalty to those she loved that will be remembered most. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her, and she will be deeply missed by all.
