Lourdes Sison Brito, 95, passed on the morning of December 20, 2022, at her home in Hawthorne, California. She was born on November 16, 1927, to Lamberto and Cornelia Sison in the district of Paco, Manila, Philippines where she grew up with her two older brothers, Conrado and Miguel. She was a feisty child who loved to climb trees and later ran as a sprinter.
She was fourteen years old when WWII began. After the war, Lourdes attended Manila Central University where she studied Dentistry. She graduated in 1951 and began her practice. While at her practice, she was seen by Domingo Brito from across the street and there began his quest to court her. On September 25, 1955 they were married. The couple found themselves moving to Tacloban City, Leyte. There they had four boys: Gil, Roy, Don, and Cesar. In 1967, they moved to Calasiao, Pangasinan and in time, decided to begin a life in America.
On June 24, 1972, Lourdes, Domingo, and Cesar arrived in Los Angeles, California, and were soon followed by their three sons on May 21, 1973. Lourdes found work at the Beverly Hills Hotel, then at International Rectifier in El Segundo until she retired. In June 1976, Lourdes and her husband purchased their first home in Hawthorne. Lourdes loved her garden. She would grow new plants from stem cuttings and was always on the hunt for new varieties. It was incredible how much care she gave her plants and how eager she was to gift them to friends and family.
Regardless of her circumstances, Lourdes was always willing to support family and friends with opportunities to succeed. Her generosity was limitless, and she gave willingly, never expecting anything in return. Her entrepreneurial spirit was not only demonstrated in her accomplishments, but her eagerness to share her blessings.
Lourdes was preceded in death by her parents, Lamberto and Cornelia Sison, her brothers Conrado and Miguel, and her husband Domingo. She is survived by her four sons and their partners: Gil & Marisol, Roy & Michelle, Don & Daisy, and Cesar & Rosario. Her legacy extends to eight grandchildren: Patricia Ann, Roger Neil, Althea, Scott, Alexie, David, Lauren, and Rachel; and five great-grandchildren Patrick Jay, Noah, Layla, Khaleesi, and Henry. Her remains will be interred with her husband’s in a private family gathering at Green Hills Mortuary Park in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
