Louise Jung

August 17, 1930 — August 22, 2018

Louise Lee was born in St. Louis, Missouri on August 17, 1930 to Jean May and Frank Lee. She was the fifth of seven children – Lillie, Rose, Paul, Violet, Louise, Howard and Lori. At the beginning of the war, Violet and Louise returned to China with their parents where they spent their formative years and adopted many traditions, customs, and values from their native country.

In 1947, both Violet and Louise returned to St. Louis where they lived with their elder sister Lillie and her family. Louise soon met and married Thomas Jung and began raising her family of six children: Kathy, Vicky, Tom, Terry, Mike and Debbie. In 1962, the family relocated to Lawndale where she spent the rest of her life. Tom and Louise instilled upon their children the values of being kind and giving to one another, the strength of family, and the importance of education.

Throughout the years, Louise was a dedicated wife, mother and business woman. After Thomas passed away in 1984, she was determined to keep the family close by celebrating major events, holidays, and cooking her special Chinese delicacies.

Louise was also a member of Crenshaw Baptist Church for over 50 years where she was a dedicated servant of God, maintained long-term friendships, and cooked for fellow church members until she could no longer perform that task.

The highlights of her life were spending time with her children, five grandchildren, and more recently with her two great-granddaughters (and anticipating a great grandson to be arriving in November). Louise enjoyed cuddling with babies, her shopping trips to Chinatown, and attending church activities. She also loved growing fresh vegetables and sharing them with family and friends, as well as, cooking Chinese foods, baking cakes and cookies, and crocheting many beautiful blankets and baby clothes.

Louise peacefully passed away in her home in Lawndale on August 22, 2018, surrounded by her six children, after celebrating her 88th birthday with close family members just five days earlier.

We are grateful to have been nurtured by such a loving and supportive mother and will miss and cherish our memories of a great lady.
