Louis D'Assalenaux

Louis Richard d'Assalenaux was born on January 4, 1924, in Oakland, California. His parents were Louis R. d'Assalenaux III and Elsie King d'Assalenaux. Lou attended schools in Oakland until the family moved to Los Angeles. He graduated from Hollywood High School. He enlisted in the Navy V12 program and became an officer in the Navy Seabees. He served in the South Pacific and Washington D.C., retiring as a Lieutenant J.G. An engineering graduate of Stanford University he was employed by McCulloch Motors Corporation as an engineer, later Washington representative for the company, and then Vice President of McCulloch Oil Corporation. When the corporation was moved to Houston, Lou decided to remain in California and worked as owner and President of LRD Securities Corporation. Retirement years were spent in extensive travel, playing tennis and golf. He was an elder at Saint Luke's Presbyterian Church, a charter member of the Jack Kramer Tennis Club, was a founding board member of the Rolling Hills Country Club, and a past President of the Stanford Alumni Club of Palos Verdes - South Bay. He enjoyed water skiing until age 79 and playing tennis until age 85. His survivors are his wife, Jody, daughters Janis d'Assalenaux (Robert Sheppard), Debra Kelly (Timothy) and Dr. Richard d'Assalenaux. Grandchildren Kathryne Sheppard and Kevin Sheppard, great-grandchildren Keaton and Korbyn, nieces and nephews. One cousin Claudia Smith Hill of Willits, California. Lou passed peacefully on July 21, 2015, with his wife of 68 years at his side. Visitation Friday, August 7, 2015, 3:00-8:00 pm at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes. The family requests that the graveside service be private. Memorial contributions in Lou's memory may be made to the American Red Cross or Salvation Army.
