Lorraine R. Jones

April 15, 1924 — April 9, 2014

Lorraine R. Jones was promoted to glory and to her heavenly reward on Wednesday, April 9th, 2014, at San Pedro, California; after a six month battle with cancer. Lorraine died one week short of her 90th birthday, having been born April 15th, 1924 in West Virginia. Lorraine was the oldest daughter of four children. Her father Richard B. Adams died when she was twelve and her mother Icy Harris Adams remarried. Lorraine and her sister, Shirley, were then taken in as wards of the state at Fairmont Children's Home in Ohio.

Lorraine was fortunate in being chosen as a foster daughter to Dr. and Mrs. R. Ward (a dentist in Alliance, Ohio) and learning from Mrs. Ward how to be a part of their family. She was very happy there and learned at an early age how to work and set goals to reach for in life. At the age of 19, she went to College but was interrupted by the war and was not able to finish until she was older.
During World War II Lorraine worked in Washington D.C. for the United States Government. She was also married to the Consul General of Panama, Irvin R. Di Sasso. She was not talkative about the war time years: but to let us all know about her flying lessons and some of the sad times; such as, losing all the of the men of her graduating class to World War II.

For the last fifty years, since 1962, Lorraine was a nurse and loved her career. During 1984, she came to know Jesus Christ as her savior at a Billy Graham Crusade. When she retired in 1989 from the Canterbury nursing home, she immediately began volunteering her time to help others including serving with the LA Police Department after graduating from the Community Police Academy.

Lorraine was married six times and was preceded in death by all her siblings, her husbands, and three of her six children (James, Lorraine Louise; & Michelle). After the death of her last and beloved husband Terry R. Jones, she remained a widow spending time devoted to her family and her church. She will be greatly missed.

Lorraine is survived by her three remaining children: Denise, Michael and Arlene Frances. The children include: Fifteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Her hobbies included photography, writing and reading.

Celebration of Life in Christ service will be at 2 PM Tuesday April 15th at Green Hills Memorial Park, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA.
