Lorna May Vonslomski, age 97, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025, in Harbor City, California, with family by her side. Born on September 19, 1927, in Brisbane, Australia, Lorna brought warmth and joy to every chapter of her long and vibrant life.
Lorna’s journey from Brisbane to the United States began in the aftermath of World War II when she came over from Australia as a war bride. Leaving behind her mother, father, two sisters, and a brother, she embraced a new life with courage and optimism. Though separated by distance, Lorna remained deeply connected to her Australian roots and made it a priority to stay in touch with her family back home through the decades. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Vonslomski, and her son Bobby Von Slomski. She is lovingly remembered by her son Don Von Slomski; daughters-in-law Vivian Von Slomski and Ana Vonslomski; grandchildren Lisa Vons Cooper, Vellany Nelson, Kimberly Von Slomski, Linda Lindsey, Robert Vonslomski, and Anthony Vonslomski; as well as her seven great-grandchildren.
A woman of many passions and boundless energy, Lorna found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had a deep love for sports—especially football, tennis, and golf—and could often be found cheering on her favorite athletes with enthusiasm. In earlier years, she loved to dance and was known for creating delicious “ooey gooey” desserts that became family favorites. Her green thumb was evident in the beautiful garden she lovingly tended over the years. Whether planting new blooms or simply enjoying the sunshine among her flowers, gardening brought her peace and pride.
She cherished time spent with family above all else. She delighted in spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with affection and treats. Whether hosting gatherings or simply sitting out front of her home inviting neighbors to stop by for a chat, Lorna created community wherever she went. Her ability to connect with people—whether lifelong friends or passing acquaintances—was one of her most treasured gifts.
A funeral service honoring Lorna’s life will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM at Green Hills Mortuary and Memorial Chapel, located at 27501 South Western Ave., Rancho Palos Verdes, California 90275.
Lorna May Vonslomski lived nearly a century with grace, laughter, and love. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her and continue to inspire kindness in all who carry it forward.
