Josephine Deloras “Lola” Bonfield
September 30, 1934-December 11,2024
It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we announce the passing of Josephine Deloras “Lola” Bonfield, known to all who loved her as “Gram”, on December 11, 2024.
Born on September 30, 1934, in Palmer Lake, Colorado, Lola was a bright light who spent her life in service to others. She was 90 years old. Lola moved to California and later worked a couple jobs and then met her future husband at National Supply Co. in Torrance CA, David Duane Bonfield (deceased 5/3/2003). They were both in the typist pool. They were married in 1956 and soon after started a family of four children in the So. Bay area.
For nearly three decades, she worked for the L.A. School District, spending over 23 years at Willenberg Special Ed and several years at Catskill Ave Elementary, leaving a lasting impact on all those she worked with.
She is survived by her four children: Debbie Bonfield, Dee Dee Bonfield, Danette Bonfield Bonillo and Duane Bonfield; nice grandchildren: Celina, Chelsea, Corri, Breann,
Mitchell, Brittney, Dillon, Ruby Jane and Daniel; along with four great grandchildren: Lola, Mia, Gavin, Jaxon and a new addition which will be No. 5 great grandchild that will be joining us in the next couple weeks.
Lola is also survived by her two beloved sisters, Virgie Melgosa Hackman and Gloria Melgosa Liefke.
~~~Lola was a beautiful soul, inside and out. She was everyone’s Gram. The second you met her, you became important to her. She was giving kind, and full of joy, with a sharp sense of humor and a bit of sarcasm that everyone adored. Her life was a testament to her deep love for her family. She attended every school event, choir performance, hockey game, and family gatherings, fully immersed in everything
that brought joy to those she loved.
For gram, family meant everything. She often said how blessed she was to have such a vast and boisterous family. It was clear her greatest joy came from seeing her family happy.
Lola was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David D. Bonfield, and her dear brother, Robert “Uncle Bobby” Melgosa. While she will be profoundly missed, we take comfort knowing that she is now at peace, reunited with those she loved. We know that one day, we will all join her in heaven.
