Lisa Ungaro, 57 Of San Pedro, CA passed away, on January 28th 2025. She was born in Lakewood, CA in 1967 to Thomas and Rosemarie Galbraith. She was their beloved first daughter. She was joined a few years later by her brother Robert in 1969. Their family lived together in Lakewood, California and attended St. Pancratius Parish and School. Lisa learned both her tenacity and her compassion from her parents. Their dedication and care for their family was something that Lisa carried with her all of her life. She loved adventures and trips with her grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. As she grew, she also created special memories for her own family.
Lisa attended St. Joseph High School and graduated in the class of 1985. She was both a dedicated student and a talented athlete. She loved softball and basketball. She was a proud St. Joseph's Jester. It was there that she forged deep friendships that would last for a lifetime. She was a loyal and dedicated friend, willing to listen, to laugh, and to be there when she was needed.
She attended Loyola Marymount University and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. She was a talented writer and always had a keen eye for keeping track of the details. She wanted to use her talents in service to her community and to her country. She began her decades long career in public service as a probation officer in the city of Norwalk for the Department of Public Safety. She served for 23 years as an officer and later as a supervisor in pretrial Services for the United States District Court, Central District of California. The work that Lisa dedicated herself to was not easy, but she was committed to serving her community and to the people who she served alongside for many years. Those of us who knew and loved her, knew what pride she took in the work that she did and her commitment to community, safety, justice, and the rule of law.
Lisa met the love of her life, her husband Emiddio Ungaro, on a blind date in 2001. They would say of their love that it was written in the stars. Together with their family, they enjoyed concerts, and sporting events, and going on travel adventures near and far. They welcomed their daughter Alexandra Rose into the world. Lisa loved being a mom and was a constant presence at softball games, at school functions and on a variety of Girl Scout Adventures. Her Girl Scouts were even able to convince her to go camping a few times. Lisa had a deep love of travel, the kind that involved sleeping inside, not in tents. She loved Disney Day and was known to send several Instagram Reels a day to her daughter and nephews to keep them up to date on the latest Disney snacks and merch drops. Whether it was a trip after school to the parks or one of her favorite Disney cruises, it was a joy to see someone who worked so hard to make magic for others experience some of that magic for herself.
Lisa is survived by her parents, Thomas and Rosemarie Galbraith, her daughter Alexandra, her stepchildren Natalina, Elena and Rosario, her brother Robert, nephews Justin and Johnathan and the many family and friends that were blessed to be known and loved by her. We will miss her handwritten cards, and just checking in phone calls, her warm smile, her lists, and the way that she made people feel deeply cared for whether you had known her for 5 minutes or forever. Her legacy will be the ways that we continue to love and care for each other, following her example.
