Lisa Sayaka Nakamaru, a graduate of South High School and student at University of California at Davis who touched many with her compassionate personality, her luminous smile, and her positive attitude toward life, passed away on October 12, 2014. She was 20.
Lisa was the daughter of Ward and Grace Nakamaru and the loving baby sister to Calvin and Andrew. She leaves behind grandmother Lillian Nakamaru and grandfather Yukio Tanaka, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and her beloved yellow Labrador Rosie, who all meant everything to her.
Sports and outdoor activities were a huge passion in Lisa's life. She enjoyed competing on the UC-Davis Ultimate Frisbee team and her spirit of adventure led to a love of snowboarding, hiking, and camping. She had a bucket list to travel to every continent, and this past summer checked one off that list by embarking on a family trip to Africa.
The family expresses their grateful appreciation for the outpouring of love during this difficult time.
A service celebrating the Lisa's life will be held on Saturday October 25th at the South Bay Community Church (2549 W 190th St, Torrance) at 11:00 AM.
A memorial scholarship has been established by the family at South High School - an award to a graduating senior who best exemplifies her ohana spirit.
