LINDA VAQUERA HULBERT
The Hulbert family is deeply saddened to announce the passing of their beloved wife, mother and grandmother on June 6, 2018 at the age of 77. With the grace of God and the prayers of so many very special and loving friends, combined with the excellent health care that she received, she only endured the horrific pains of cancer for a short time before leaving us peacefully with the family at her side.
Linda was born on October 8, 1940 in San Pedro, California to Felix and Mary Ann Vaquera. She attended schools in San Pedro where she developed many life-long friendships. Linda graduated from CSULB and began her distinguished teaching career with LAUSD in 1962. Linda taught at several San Pedro elementary schools and at Dodson Middle School before “retiring” in 2001 to care for her mother. Being a very dedicated and committed teacher she also continued as a frequent substitute teacher for many of her friends at Crestwood Street School until March 2018.
In the summer of 1962 while vacationing in Hawaii before starting her teaching career she met the love of her life a US Marine. Linda and George were married in June 1965 and were blessed with two wonderful sons – George A. who lives in Long Beach with his wife Amber and their daughter Abby (age 4), and Andrew John who lives in North Carolina with his wife Kathleen and their sons Christopher (age 9) and Alexander (age 6). Linda loved the time that she spent with her grandchildren and wanted so much to be able to see them develop with her loving tutoring.
In addition to her love for teaching and family, Linda loved to read even while doing a considerable amount of traveling over the past 10 year. She truly enjoyed meeting people in many different countries and cultures (made it to all the continents) and marveled at the many beautiful places that she visited.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents and by her only brother Fred Vaquera. She is survived by her husband George, sons George and Andrew, along with three grandchildren who will carry forward her deep faith and love of life’s blessings.
A Funeral Mass will be at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in San Pedro on Wednesday June 13, 2018 at 10:30 am with burial thereafter at Green Hill Memorial Park. A very special person in her life, Monsignor John Barry (who also presided over her marriage to George nearly 53 years ago) will preside at the Mass. A reception will follow at Ports of Call Restaurant in San Pedro.
It is Linda’s and the families wishes that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Cancer Society for the ongoing research needed to find cures for this deadly disease that takes our loved ones all too soon.
