Lily Takeko Kobayashi was born on July 17,1929 to Nozomu (Dad) and Shizuko (Mom) in Los Angeles, California. Lily had two brothers, Paul (Yukio) and John (Michio) and two sisters, Mary (Setsuko) and Pauline (Masako). She lived in Los Angeles until 1942 (when the mother and five children were sent to Amache Internment Camp in Granada, Colorado, and the father was separately incarcerated in Santa Fe, New Mexico).
Camp life for Lily during the war years was fairly routine except for a period of about four months, while her mother was hospitalized due to illness, when she had to assume the responsibilities of caring for her four younger siblings until her father was able to be released from Santa Fe to join the family at Amache.
When the War ended, Lily relocated back to Los Angeles and worked as a domestic for an elderly couple in Hollywood where she attended Hollywood High and graduated from in 1947. She didn’t have many hobbies but did enjoy playing basketball and bowling.
After graduating from High School, she moved to the Bay area where she worked and attended UC Berkeley until taking a job in Tokyo, Japan to assist in Japan's post-war rehabilitation.
She then returned to Los Angeles and worked briefly for the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL). After the JACL, began a career at the new District Office for Japan Airlines (JAL) in downtown Los Angeles. It was here that Lily and Takashi met and the rest is history...
On May 19, 1963, Lily and Takashi got married in Los Angeles, California. They did not have any children of their own but have always had a close relationship with the kids from their extended families of both Lily and Takashi.
Lily is an avid sports fan supporting the US Olympic Team (loves skating & gymnastics) and Utah Jazz Basketball team ( loved coach Jerry Sloane and guard John Stockton)
Lily and Takashi’s favorite hobby is to go out to lunch with close friends and family. Their social calendar was always full with lunch dates as they both loved to spend time with those closest to them…
