Lillie Ruth (Cotton) Daniels entered this world on April 24, 1944 in Union, Mississippi. She was reared by her loving mother and father, Jessie Mae and Henry Jefferson Cotton. Lillie’s parents and family strongly encouraged her to have a personal relationship with the Lord and to attain as much education as possible. Early in life Lillie accepted Christ as her personal savior and was christened at Thirkill Methodist Church and later became an active and dedicated member.
In 1963 she graduated Valedictorian from C. H. Boler High School in Decatur, Mississippi. She then attended Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama for two years.
After spending a short period with her parents Lillie moved to Los Angeles, California in 1966 and married her high school sweetheart James Daniels. James honorably served the country in the Vietnam War and proceeded her in death. She attended California State University Dominguez Hills in California earning a B.A. in Sociology in 1974. She later obtained her Master of Science in Social Work from University of California, Los Angeles in 1976.
Lillie was a highly skilled Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Lecturer, and Consultant. Throughout the years, her combined administrative and clinical experience prepared her to work with mental health clinics, schools, industry and psychiatric hospitals. In 1980, Lillie developed a private practice.
Lillie was a loving and compassionate woman who possessed an infectious personality that won the hearts of many. Her passions included music, nature, world travel, exotic cuisines, health and helping others. She was an intellect and scholar who valued education.
On July 13, 2020, Lillie transitioned from this world to her external home to be with her Lord and Savior.
Lillie was preceded in death by her mother Jessie Mae Cotton, father Henry Jefferson Cotton, Three Sisters, Elsie Mae (Cotton) Williams, Elsie Renee Cotton, Jo Ann (Cotton) Cox, and two brothers, Edward Thames and John Henry Cotton.
As Lillie leaves us to cherish her memory she is survived by three sisters, Jeannie Ruth (John) Nicholson, Linda Cotton, and Patricia (Michael) Fulton; two brothers, Curtis (Lottie) Cotton, and Melvin (Norma) Cotton, Sister- in -law Jeanetta Cotton: brother- in- law Author Cox and a host of nieces and nephews, three of them she helped raise lives in California, La Misha (cotton) Franks, Demetrius Nicholson, and Derrick Nicholson. She also leaves behind a godson Alex Woods and a host of her family members and friends.
