Lillian Darlington- Singletary of Rancho Palos Verdes, Ca., left this earth on May 18, 2014. She was born in Chicago, Ill., December 29, 1927, to Mary and John Darlington, deceased. Lillian attended Northwestern University at Evanston, Ill., earning her PHD in Physics in 1956. She was married to Robert Chalmers, PHD, deceased. Lillian worked for the United States Department of Defense researching nuclear energy. One of the first women to work in nuclear physics, she pioneered the way for other Women to follow her steps in an otherwise male dominating field. Lillian also worked in the aeronautical industry for several large publicly traded companies. She was highly regarded as one of the top scientists in her field. Lillian loved life, especially square dancing with her husband on a regular basis. She was also a world traveler. Lillian was loved and respected by her family and friends and she will be dearly missed. Her sweet smile and tremendous laughter will be with us always. Lillian is survived by her sisters, Carol Darlington-Boberg (Richard Boberg), Suzanne Darlington-Ruggiero (Sebastian Ruggiero), step sister, Lois Blackwell, stepsons, Douglas Chalmers, Chris Chalmers, and 5 grandsons.
