Lela Mae Ross, known affectionately as "Lemurz", passed away peacefully at her home in 29 Palms, California on February 12th after a brave year- long struggle with gastrointestinal disease. Family and friends will celebrate Lela's extraordinary life at the Green Hills Mortuary in Rancho Palos Verdes on April 26 at 1:45 PM.
Born on August 5, 1977, Lela was an active and inquisitive child who became highly accomplished in academics, equestrian competitions, gymnastics, dance and ice skating. She graduated from Palos Verdes Peninsula High School and later attended Modesto Junior College, Delta College and graduated as an RN from Iowa Central Community College. She began her nursing career at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada. Later, she worked in nursing at several hospitals in Washington State and in Southern California. Before her nursing career, Lela was an IT professional for PacBell and a sound engineer for up-and-coming bands in the San Francisco Bay Area. She was by nature a kind, loving woman and was a dedicated crusader for underrepresented and downtrodden people, traits that served her well in her nursing profession.
Lela was a dynamic woman of eclectic interests who could converse with anyone on almost any topic, and could hold her ground with confidence and passion on those issues about which she cared deeply. We lovingly remember her incredible sense of humor and appreciation of the absurd, along with her passion for art, music, travel, books and animal welfare. She touched countless lives, and we will all miss her deeply.
In lieu of flowers, we know Lela would appreciate your donation to Bestfriends.org/nkla, a no-kill animal shelter.
