LeAnn Marie Simpson was born in Santa Monica Hospital, on July 28th, 1952. She was born with some birth defects, which impacted her entire life. She was epileptic, and suffered grand mal seizures. She was also unable to walk for the first 4 years of her life, due to her hip sockets now being developed. The most impactful thing in her life was that she was born developmentally disabled. She attended schools with other developmentally disabled children. She grew up affiliated with Westside Regional Center, and attended dances, and other social events, as well as bowling, which she absolutely loved. She was able to participate in some ocean cruises, which she enjoyed to the fullest.
LeAnn moved out of the family home when she was in her 30's, and into an apartment in Fox Hills with 2 other disabled adult women. Shortly after moving there, one of her room-mates moved to another home, and LeAnn and Leslie lived together for decades. LeAnn got a job, working @ Nordstrom's in Westside Pavilion, in the food court. She would get up @ 5am, get dressed, and take the bus to work every morning. Eventually it became more than she she could deal with, so she entered an education program for disabled adults.
She had a series of psychological, and behavioral setbacks, and entered an assisted living facility, which she lived in for the last 10 years. Unfortunately, the facility that she lived in, had a large Covid outbreak, and she needed to be hospitalized for a few weeks. She last her sense of taste and smell, and never recovered, so she needed to have a feeding tube surgically implanted. The last few years of her life were a challenge, and she had an assortment of ailments.
On December 1st, LeAnn contracted an infection that her body couldn't fight off, and she passed away unexpectedly. She is survived by her sisters Virginia Mathiasen, Sharon Tennant, brother Kent Simpson, and his wife Rhonda, and nephew Brian Mathiasen.
