On May 22, 2023, Kezhang Liu left to be with his Lord and Savior after 91 years on this Earth. Born on September 4, 1932 in China where he lived the first 60 years of his incredible life, Kezhang and his wife later moved to Los Angeles, California to be with his children and grandchildren and where he enjoyed his retirement by gardening, spending time with his friends and family, winning BINGO, and traveling the world.
By trade, Kezhang was a master of languages, translating and editing literature at a research institute and served as an editor-in-chief for Heavy Machinery Technology magazine. He was fluent in Chinese, Russian, Japanese, and German, and taught himself English.
His passion, though, was poetry, art, and all things beautiful in the world. He was a prolific and soulful writer, penning hundreds of traditional and modern poems. His translations of classical Chinese poetry have been widely published and used as textbooks for elementary schools in China. His paintings capture the beauty of the world and all of God’s creatures in it. His capacity for appreciating creation was endless and an inspiration to all those around him.
Kezhang was a noble and strong man, who stood firm for his beliefs. Because of him and his wife, three generations have placed their faith in Christ. In his words, “Thanks to God’s grace my life is full of pleasure and significance.”
Kezhang is survived by his devoted wife, his three daughters and their husbands, his many grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren. When he left peacefully to be in Jesus Christ, his Savior’s hands, he was surrounded by his loving family, friends, and covered in their prayers.
