Kenneth C. Sumner passed away in Torrance, California September 15, 2011 at 93.
Born in Mahnomen, Minnesota June 14, 1918, he grew up on a farm in Boyd, Minnesota, lived through the Great Depression, worked on farms in Minnesota and Iowa and made a permanent home in California.. He married his first wife Doris, divorced, then married his second wife Helen, had two children and later divorced.
In California, Ken's jobs included Douglas Aircraft, Helms Bakeries and Consolidated Pet Foods. He proudly served in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS South Dakota. Afterward, he owned a Richfield Gas Station in Hollywood. Never forgetting Minnesota, he made yearly family trips that his children lovingly remember.
He is survived by daughter Elizabeth, son Keith, three step grandsons - Joel, Logan and Alex, brothers Glenn and Harold, and sister Leone. He was preceded in death by brothers, Merrill and Gerald; sisters, Gladys, Verlan and Adeline and both his wives Doris and Helen.
Ken was known for his stories of his life and is remembered fondly and lovingly by family and friends.
