Kay Burkhart Schoof

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Kay Burkhart Schoof. Kay passed peacefully at Hidden Valley Assisted Living, Ogden, Utah where she had been living for the last six months.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Steven (Rosemarie), her daughter, Randyl (Stephen), her daughter-in-law, Mary, and her five grandchildren: Timothy, Robert, Erin, Lauren and William. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Robert (Bob), as well as her son, John, and grandson, Thomas.

Kay was born in Louisville, Kentucky, and grew up in Detroit, Michigan where she met her future husband, Bob. Kay and Bob were married in Miami, Florida and started their family. In 1961 Kay, Bob, the kids and Kay’s mom, Estelle (Dodi), moved to Palos Verdes. Kay loved PV. She loved her house, the view, her friends and all that Palos Verdes could offer the young family. Although Kay and Bob enjoyed every place they lived, including a late career move to Northern Virginia, they always considered Palos Verdes their home.

Kay was devoted to her family, and the support of their interests, efforts and endeavors gave her great pleasure throughout her life. Kay was positive, enthusiastic and passionate about everything she did including running a busy household, being an avid theater goer, serving as a National Charity League/Les Amis executive, volunteering as a docent at the Smithsonian in Washington, DC, and especially being “Grandma Kay”, and sharing time and stories with her grandkids.

A visitation will be held from 10:30 am to 11:30 am on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Green Hills Memorial Park, Rancho Palos Verdes followed by a graveside service at 12:30 pm. A Celebration of Life Memorial will take place later that day at 2:00 pm at St. Peter’s by the Sea Presbyterian Church, Rancho Palos Verdes.
