Kathryn Ann Stahnke, 87, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2014 of natural causes at Little Company of Mary Medical Center in San Pedro , California . Kathryn was born in 1926 to Frank Keefer Snavely and Mary Jane (Rankin) Snavely in Los Angeles , California . The second of 2 children, Kathryn attended Leland Street Elementary School and Richard Henry Dana Junior High School . She graduated from San Pedro High School in 1944.

Kathryn married the love of her life, Carl Jay Stahnke in 1945. While Carl served honorably in the United States Navy, Kathryn attended Woodbury College . After WW2, Carl and Kathryn settled in San Pedro , California , where they lived and raised their 3 children. Along with her family, Kathryn was an active member of Grandview Methodist Church , where she taught Sunday School for several years. She was also a Blue Bird and Camp Fire Girl leader.

In addition to sketching and writing short stories, Kathryn was a skilled seamstress; designing, drafting patterns and sewing many of her own clothes as well as for her own children.

After retirement, Kathryn and Carl traveled frequently. Kathryn's interest in her ancestors led them on a quest across the country. She enjoyed learning about the faces in her family's photo album. But most of all, Kathryn loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Kathryn will be forever loved and remembered by her devoted children Wayne, Sandie (Stahnke) Jarrett, Mark; her grandchildren Tim Jarrett, Kaitlyn (Stahnke) Barr, William Stahnke, Mary Kathryn Stahnke and her 2 great granddaughters Addison Jarrett and Roxanne Barr.

The Stahnke Family invites friends and family to join them in a celebration of the life of Kathryn Ann (Snavely) Stahnke at Green Hills Memorial Park on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the Pacific Terrace at 11:30am.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Harbor Day Preschool.
