Katarina Pettersson

Karin Katarina Pettersson, of San Pedro California, was born on December 10, 1942 in Stockholm Sweden. In 1949, her family emigrated to the United States and settled in Defiance Ohio.
At Defiance High School, she was involved in many activities including the school newspaper, student government and cheer leading. She was crowned homecoming queen.
Immediately after her high school graduation she moved to New York City. Initially, she worked for Eastern Airlines, and later became a flight attendant for Pan AM. When she retired from flying, she became a stockbroker at the firm of Herold Wilson & Gerald.
While flying, she often found herself in San Juan, Puerto Rico. There she met a retired US Army Captain, Ruben Figueroa. They married and had a son, Rene Antonio.
In the early 1970’s, she moved to Southern California as part of the MoWest crew; the Los Angeles division of Motown records. As an art director in the creative division. She worked on album covers for Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross, Edwin Starr, Gladys Knight and The Jackson Five, just to name a few.
Katarina enjoyed traveling, sailing, and was a do it yourselfer long before DIY was popular. She was gourmet cook, crafter and an avid reader.
She followed politics and volunteered on several political campaigns, though she was not able to vote. This changed in 2010 when she became an American citizen, though she continued to embrace her Swedish heritage.
Katarina was a devoted mother, a loyal and caring friend and animal advocate.
She is survived by her son Rene Antonio “Tony” Figueroa.
It is rare for one member of a family to have a positive impact on the entire clan, but Katarina did just that. She was a role model, a beacon of integrity, wisdom and compassion that can never be forgotten or replaced. The family mourns the loss of a truly wonderful, rare and amazing human being. She will be missed for all time.

The Celebration of Life for Katarina Pettersson will be held on Friday November 9th at 1:00PM. The service will take place at: The Noregian Seaman's Church 1035 S. Beacon St. San Pedro, CA 90731
