Styhr, Karsten H., Jr. passed away in his sleep in the morning of January 8, 2014 at the age of 83. Kar was born in Brooklyn, New York to Karsten, Sr. and Ella. Kar is survived by his sister, Ella Miller, of New York, his son, Kurtis Styhr, of Thousand Oaks, his daughter, Kristine Coats, of Encinitas, and three grandchildren, Katie, Alexander, and Coleman. Kar was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Katherine (Kay) , and daughter, Holly Styhr, and very much looked forward to joining them.
Kar was an innovative Aerospace Engineer, working in research and development for over 35 years. He graduated from Alfred University in New York and attended the PhD program at Rutgers University in New Jersey on the VA Bill. He valued education above most everything and was very proud that both of his children held graduate degrees.
Kay and Kar traveled all over the world , by plane, sailboat, cruise ship and automobile. They believed that travel was in itself an education and ventured from the exotic to the mundane. They spent their early married years in New York and New Jersey then spent many happy years in Michigan, before finally settling in Palos Verdes in the 70s.
Kar loved his planes and flying his kids to Catalina, Big Bear and Mammoth. He even flew to his niece's wedding in upstate New York with his daughter and her best friend in 1982. He will be remembered as a generous man who could fix anything! Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in Memory of Karsten H.
