June M Rossberg

August 11, 1925 — January 28, 2024

Our dear mother, June Rossberg, has left us for her heavenly home, after inspiring so many with her love, kindness, inclusivity, and generosity for over 98 years. June was born in Chicago to Alfred and Claudia Sauer McComb. A child of the Great Depression, she grew up in a one-bedroom flat above her mother’s print shop. Despite the tight quarters, her parents always sheltered and fed others, often taking in strangers whose own families had turned them out. June continued that legacy of quiet and humble acts of kindness throughout her entire life. June excelled at Chicago's Immaculata High School, including winning the lead role of Florence Nightingale in the school play. She was adventurous and spent several years working (and playing!) at Sun Valley Resort. After returning to Chicago, she worked at RCA Records and took night classes at Northwestern University where she met Dick, her husband of 63 years. When Dick was transferred to L.A., June packed up three children under the age of 4 and flew them there all by herself! Once settled into their Hollywood Riviera home, they completed their family with their 4th child and enjoyed a rich and full life. Enthusiastically supportive of all her husband’s and children's activities, June never lost her own sense of curiosity and thirst to learn, teaching us it is never too late to embrace new experiences. Even in her later years, she took up tap dancing and the flute, excelled at El Camino in programming, law and art history classes, loved interacting with customers as co-owner of Torrance Bakery and enjoyed Pilates, even into her early 90s! June was filled with joy and gratitude through her faith and love of her family, friends, and even perfect strangers. She saw the good in everyone and never spoke an unkind word! June always made your day with her sweet smile, empathetic ear, infectious laugh, big hug, quick wit, and twinkle in her eye. June is preceded in death by her husband, Dick Rossberg, and survived by her children, Claudia Rossberg Mc- Clain (Patrick), Chris Rossberg (Miyuki), Jill Rossberg Carlton (Steve), Kirk Rossberg (Margie), her grandchildren and great grandchildren. A celebration of June’s life will be held Monday, February 19th, at 11am at St. Lawrence, Redondo Beach. Reception to follow. Feel free to wear something colorful and a favorite hat if you have one. June would love that! Please keep June in your heart by carrying on her passion for random acts of kindness. A donation to Providence TrinityCare Hospice Foundation (give.providence.org/trinity) in her name would also be a wonderful way to honor her.
