Judith Elaine Taylor

November 4, 1943 — December 20, 2021

Judith “Judy” Elaine Taylor was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world on December 20, 2021, at the age of 78 after a courageous battle with cancer. Judy was surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

Judy was born to Daniel and Gertrude Tyler on November 4, 1943 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Her father’s work with the YMCA took their family on adventures across the United States and Africa. They moved to Berkeley, California at the age of two, then to Liberia where she attended junior and high school, and then lived in Uganda before returning to the U.S. to attend college.

Both Judy and her sister, Joanne, followed in their parents’ footsteps as legacy graduates from Talladega College. Judy graduated with her bachelor of science degree in 1963 after excelling in the choir and playing an active role as a sister of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

Judy met the love of her life, Rudy, at Tuskegee University in Alabama, where they were studying to become veterinarians. After graduating with their doctorate degrees in Veterinary Medicine, they moved to California and married on December 19, 1970. In June 1974, Doctors Taylor and Tyler opened Laguna Vista Small Animal Hospital in Harbor City.

Judy was an active member of Christ the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church near Leimert Park in Los Angeles, as a lay reader, singing in the choir, and women’s group Daughters of the King. Her passion for helping young women excel in life extended from the church community as she started a nonprofit organization called Girlz Talk.

Judy is survived by her husband, Rudy; her son, Christopher, his wife Kerrey, and their three children, Rose, Marcus and Orion; her son Michael, his wife Michelle, and their son Alexander; her son Matthew; her step-son, Rudy Jr., his children, Brandon, Ian, Glynis, Xavier, and his grandchildren, Brayden, Braylon, and Pharoah; her step-daughter, Charrise, her husband Winston, and their daughter, Athena; siblings, Joanne and Daniel; and many extended family and dear friends.

A remembrance viewing will be held from 4-8 pm on January 17th and the funeral service is scheduled for 11:30 am on January 18th, at Green Hills Mortuary & Memorial Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes. Details for a Celebration of Life to be given to guests at the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a cancer research charity or organization of your choice on her behalf.
