Judith K. Henderson

January 2, 1941 — August 13, 2022

Judy was born January 2, 1941 to Lacy G. and Esther R. Marlette in Long Beach, California. She attended Starr King Elementary, Lindbergh and Hamilton Junior Highs and Jordan High School where she was a proud member of Alpha Sigma Rho Sorority. After graduation in 1958, she attended Long Beach City College until marrying Thornton, who she met and dated in High School. They were married July 11, 1959. After honeymooning in Yosemite at the Glacier Point Hotel, Judy and Thornton resided in North Long Beach and were members of North Long Beach Brethren Church before moving to Lakewood, California over 50 years ago with children David and Kristy.

Judy loved her family and family life which included family camping trips and family gatherings. She was a terrific cook and homemaker. Judy was a devoted Christian, accepting Jesus while involved in Good News Club while in elementary school. She worked full time in office work as a young married woman until the arrival of David and Kristy. She was fortunate to be able to be a full time Mom, which she loved and excelled at. When David and Kristy were older, she worked as an elementary school playground assistant and performed secretarial duties for North Long Beach Brethren Church, where she was also in charge of the 3rd grade Sunday School. Judy and Thornton were among the first members of Cornerstone Church Long Beach, a church home she loved.

Judy returned to school in her middle age years, attending Long Beach City College and Cal State Long Beach, graduating with a degree in Art History. In her later years, Judy enjoyed travel and visiting children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in Washington State, Utah, Texas, Colorado and Wyoming as well as Great Britain and Europe. She always volunteered to help with grandchildren when her help was needed, no matter where they were living.

Our beautiful Judy, in good health for the majority of her life, succumbed to the ravages of dementia on August 13, 2022 at home with her family at her side. With her at the time of her passing was her husband of 63 years, Thornton, her son David, her daughter, Kristy Peacock and two of her grandchildren, Andrew Peacock and Linnea Sturges.

Judy is survived by her husband and high school sweetheart, Thornton, son David, daughter Kristy (Derek) Peacock, grandchildren Kristen Moreno, Scott Henderson, Kelsey (Ryan) De Leo, Andrew Peacock, Linnea (Ike) Sturges and Jonathan Peacock, as well as great grandchildren Taylor and Riley Henderson, Hallie Nesbit, Ava and Sophia Moreno, Wyatt and Harper De Leo and Sebastian Sturges. A ninth great grandchild Jackson Arnett is on the way. She is also survived by her beloved brother Lacy (Nikki) Marlette , nieces Allie (Derek) Johnson, Marisa (Todd) Nirk, Jenny (Tod) Musgrave, nephew Eric (Ashley) McConnell and their families. Brother-in-Law Leonard (Phyllis) Johnson, nephews, Curt Johnson, Brian Johnson and their families. She was preceded in death by nephew Keith Johnson.

Judy was loved by family and friends and will be missed by all. Proverbs 17:6 "Children's children are a crown to the aged and parents are the pride of their children," fits Judy perfectly.
