Juan Hiray nació el 2 de Febrero de 1927 en Cañete, Lima, Peru y falleció el 20 de Setiembre de 2023 en Carson, California acompañado de su familia. Sus padres fueron inmigrantes de Kumamoto, Japón. Fue el único varón de nueve hermanos.

Su pasión fue el Judo, empezó a practicar Judo a la edad de 17 años, logrando años después, ser uno de los dos primeros Judokas en el
Perú en recibir cinturón negro del Instituto de Judo Kodokan de Japón. Tiempo después como Sensei de Judo, enseñó a docenas de alumnos en academias de deportes, colegios, y en su propio dojo. Se dedicó al Judo por seis décadas.

Le gustaban las reuniones sociales, hacer trucos de magia, contar historias, desde chistes hasta historias tenebrosas entreteniendo tanto a niños como a adultos.

Le precedieron en fallecimiento sus padres, hermanas mayores y su querida hija mayor Haru.
Le sobreviven su esposa, hijas, hermanas menores, sobrinos, nietos, y bisnietos.

Juan Hiray was born in Cañete, Lima, Peru on February 2, 1927 and died in Carson, California on September 20, 2023 surrounded by his family. His parents were immigrants from Kumamoto, Japan. He was the fifth child out of nine siblings and the only son amongst them.

Juan’s passion was judo. He started practicing it at age 17, becoming the first of two judoka (person who practices judo) to obtain a black belt in Peru from the Kodokan Judo Institute in Japan. He became a judo sensei, teaching in various academies, educational settings and in his own dojo where he taught dozens of students for the years to come. For 60 years he dedicated his life to judo.

He enjoyed social gatherings, entertaining friends and family with magic tricks, storytelling—telling jokes and scary stories to children and adults alike.

He is predeceased by his parents, elder sisters, and his dearest oldest daughter, Haru.
He is survived by his wife, daughters, younger sisters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
