Joyce Brown (née Wixom) passed away peacefully on March 1, 2025, at the age of 85 in Costa Mesa, California. Born on August 24, 1939, in Redding, California, Joyce graduated from Torrance High School (California) in 1957. She dedicated 28 years to the sportswear manufacturing industry, employed in various roles including seamstress, silk screener, embroiderer and manager of the shipping and receiving department.
Joyce treasured her family above all and leaves behind a legacy of love. She is survived by her daughter Pamela Brown and son-in-law Victor Frake; granddaughters Emily and Katie Frake; son Gregg Brown; sisters Judy Hernandez (John Hernandez) and Dorothy Gleed (Robert Gleed); brother Michael Wixom (Elaine Wixom); sisters-in-law Patricia Wixom, Antonia Wixom, Joyce Caspell, and Diane Funke; and several nieces and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Bruce Brown I, son Bruce Brown II, parents Weldon and Dorothy Wixom, and siblings Carole Wixom, James Wixom, Lewis Wixom, Ronald Wixom Sr, Marilyn (Wixom) Tomilowitz, Jack Wixom Sr, and Calvin “Howard” Wixom. She was also predeceased by two nephews and one niece.
After experiencing the profound loss of her husband, Bruce I, in 2000, followed by her son, Bruce II, in 2004, she sought comfort in her faith. In 2008, she reconnected with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, finding solace and a supportive community.
Joyce's vibrant spirit was evident in her love for scrapbooking, sewing, arts and crafts, baking, and fishing. She especially cherished moments spent with her beloved granddaughters.
A service celebrating Joyce’s life was held on March 8, 2025, at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
In honor of Joyce’s memory, contributions are encouraged to AbilityFirst/Camp Paivika, a special place of joy and respite for her youngest son, Gregg, who was born with Cerebral Palsy.
