Joy Beth Wiley

March 31, 1928 — December 24, 2018

Joy Beth Wiley, 90, longtime resident of San Pedro, passed away on Christmas Eve, Monday, December, 24, 2018.

Born in Frederick, Oklahoma, on March 31st, 1928, to Lillian and Ivan Kirkpatrick, Beth spent her childhood on the family farm with her only sister, Joanne. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in English from Oklahoma University in 1950 (Go Sooners) and was a proud member of the Alpha Chi Omega. She married the love of her life, Edmond Bayse Wiley on March 27th,1950 in Hollywood, California. Back In Frederick, Beth gave birth to their only child, John Kirk Pike Wiley on April 21,1952. The family made their way West, settling in San Pedro, California when John was in high school.

Beth worked for many years as a loan officer at Bank of America, even after retiring. She was a parishioner of Ocean View Baptist Church, and an active member of the Assistance League of San Pedro. She volunteered at Operation School Bell, the Children’s Dental Center and crocheted countless blankets, beanies and booties for babies born into unfortunate circumstances. She was a proud member of the Republicans Women’s Club and the San Pedro Heart Foundation.

Beth was beautiful, inside and out. Strong in her faith, she loved the Lord, attended church regularly and sang hymns with all her heart. It was appropriate that she went home to Jesus in time for Christmas.

Beth was predeceased by her parents, Lillian and Ivan Kirkpatrick; her loving husband, Bayse Wiley; devoted son, John Wiley; and sister, Joanne Kirkpatrick Hickey (Joseph Hickey).

She leaves behind her granddaughters, Sarah, Jodi (Steven Gilbert) and Missy (Sam Wilson); and great-grandson Stephen; and daughter-in-law, Janie Thetford (Phil Therford); and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 18, beginning at 11:00 am at Ocean View Baptist Church - 1900 S Western Ave, San Pedro, CA, 90732.
