Joy B. Chapman, a 67 year resident of Lomita, died peacefully on November 8, 2013. She was 94 years young. Joy was born on December 9, 1918 in Circleville, Kansas to Helen and Charles Whitworth. In January of 1937 she married her love Thomas Chapman. In 1939 their daughter Helen Lillian was born. The family moved to Lomita in 1946 and made their permanent home. Tom suddenly passed away in 1964 after 27 years of marriage.
Joy had a career as a pharmacist assistant at Certi-Bond, White Front and Lomita Drug pharmacies. She worked for 30 years and then retired in 1976 to enjoy time with family and travel with friends. She loved reading, crossword puzzles and never missed a Nebraska Cornhuskers football game. Family and friends will truly miss her. She never forgot to send a card or a letter on a special day. Joy's daughter Helen passed away in 2002. Their family is finally together again.
Joy is survived by her sister Floy Meyer of Lomita, Grandsons Derek (Deanna) Rubio of Lomita, Daniel (Marcia) Rubio of New Mexico and Steve (Lupe) Rubio of Torrance. Also her 7 great grandchildren she adored, Jacob, Amber, Daniel, Seth, Noah, Mikayla and Brandon Rubio.
A service will be held on Friday November 15th at 2:00 pm at the Vista Paz section of Green Hills Memorial Park.
