Joseph Cadranel Eskenazi was born in NYC, New York on Jan. 30, 1918 to parents that immigrated to Ellis Island from Turkey. They were Sephardic Jews who embraced their Spanish/Jewish culture and had an arranged marriage meeting on the boat to sail to America. They both worked as tailor and dressmaker in NYC. The siblings Eli, Joseph and Victoria lost their father in their early childhood and were raised by their mother Belina who worked in LA for a famous designer named Adrian making costumes and gowns for the Hollywood Cinema.
The family later moved to Puebla ,Mexico where Joseph was schooled.
He was very close to his mother and sister he called Toya throughout his life.
In his teens he left school to help support his mother and went to work for her brother Bob Cadranel who taught him a trade in design.
Joseph enlisted in the Army during WWII at Fort McArthur in San Pedro, CA and went to the South Pacific to serve for 5 years. At the age of 105 he was celebrated for being the oldest living Pearl Harbor survivor !
After the war he met his bride in Mexico City, Victoria Faradji and brought her to Los Angeles. They were married for 74 years. He worked as a surveyor at first building highways across CA then worked at LAX as a civil engineer. They bought a home in Hollywood Riviera and had one daughter, Belinda that year.
He was a most loving husband to Vicky even into their elderly years the romance of their love was evident to everyone who met them. They were very sweet, holding hands and kissing often!
As a father and grandfather, he was kind, loving, generous and helpful in any way possible partaking with Vicky in his daughter’s life and family.
Joseph had a youthful spirit and kept healthy and active throughout his life enjoying the LA sunshine and taking things in his stride.
He will be sorely missed. He is survived by his daughter : Belinda, grandchildren: Raquel, Michael and Marcella, his great-grandchildren: Mathias and Audrey Mastrangelo.
