Joseph Calise

December 1, 1930 — October 15, 2013

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph F. Calise, loving husband of 62 years to Lola Calise. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Calise and brother, John. Joe is survived by his wife, Lola; 5 children, Mary Ann (Nick) Aguirre, John (Cheryl) Calise, Debra (John) Asher, Lorraine (Dave) Varela, and Jo Frances (Tom) Daxon, his sister Marie (Darrell) Adamson as well as his 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Joe was born in San Pedro, California on December 1, 1930. He served in the US Navy for four years during the Korean War on the USS Laffey. After the war, Joe began a tuna fishing career and later became a commercial fishing boat Captain. Upon retirement Joe spent time working on the barges and owned a liquor store in San Pedro. Later Joe and Lola moved to Cherry Valley where he spent his days perfecting his golf game. He loved playing cards, and watching Notre Dame football. Joe will be dearly remembered for his sense of humor, the way he entertained at family gatherings with his accordion and his thoughtful and endearing nicknames for all of his grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 23rd from 5 - 7pm, rosary beginning at 7pm at Green Hills Memorial Chapel. Church Service will be held on Thursday, October 24th at 10am at Holy Trinity Church in San Pedro, Ca.
