Joseph Bradley was born on April 7, 1932 in Pomona Park, Florida. He was the youngest of six siblings born to the union of Frances and Bertha Bradley. His parents and siblings preceded him in death. Joseph accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at their home church in Pomona Park.
Joseph obtained his secular education in Florida, graduating from Pomona Park High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy. Shortly after enlisting, he married his childhood sweetheart the former Doris Griner. To this union six children were born, four boys and two girls.
Joseph wanted a better life for his family and decided to move to San Pedro, California where he and his family soon united with the Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church.
In his early years in California, he was inducted into the Merchant Marines and traveled extensively around the world. This fueled his love for ships and the ocean. He studied ship building and even named his younger daughter after a ship named La Sandra. He also worked as a foreman at Pacific Van and Storage and in the home construction industry as a carpenter.
Joseph favorite pastimes were gardening, cabinet making and of course watching the ships as they came into the harbor.
Joseph had been ill for quite a while. Although he was frail in body, his faith and trust in God never wavered for he had settled on that account long ago. On Saturday, January 9, 2016, God dispatched His angel to escort His child home.
Joseph was preceded in death by his lovely wife Doris and his daughter La Sandra. He leaves to cherish his memory four sons; Alonzo Bradley (Sheila), Lemuel Bradley, Arlon Bradley and Darryl Bradley; one daughter San Carla Bradley; four grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
He will truly be missed.
