Jose Ramirez

April 11, 1938 — November 3, 2022

Jose de Jesus Ramirez, 84, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Thursday, November 3, 2022, surrounded by his wife and children.

Jose de Jesus Ramirez was born on April 11, 1938, in Agua Blanca, a municipality of Tepatitlan, Jalisco, Mexico. At the young age of 5 years old, he began to work to help provide for his large family. This established a foundational value of hard-work ethic with humility and integrity. From this childhood experience, Jose was able to develop a green thumb and could successfully grow just about anything. This followed him into adulthood, gardening and producing a variety of fruits and vegetables was not only a hobby, but a passion. In the late 1950’s he ventured into the Bracero Program working in the agricultural fields of the Imperial Valley. In April 1968, Jose married Maria Asuncion Ramirez and in the following two years they welcomed their first two children, Mary Muñoz and Onofre Ramirez. In the early 1970’s, he decided to try his luck coming to the U.S. in search of both opportunity and a better life. Once he settled in El Norte, he arranged for his family to join him arriving in Torrance, California. Over the next several years, the family grew, and three more children arrived Ana Icela Ramirez, Horacio Ramirez and Doria Garcia rounding out and completing the family. Jose was a man of faith, devoted to God, and a man that honored his father and his mother. He gave his time to the church by serving as an usher at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wilmington and served as an usher at Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Gardena. Jose was a man of few words but lots of wisdom. Jose was devoted and dedicated to his family, a man that would correct you with love, supported all your decisions and never passed judgement. As a strong father figure, he always wanted the best for his children, to steer them in the right direction for their well-being and development. Dad & Mom kept the kids busy; Dad kept the boys busy with baseball and soccer while Mom kept the girls busy with folklorico dance lessons and swimming lessons. This was the perfect opportunity for Dad to pursue his passion and love for soccer, at the same time to give back to his community by volunteering as a coach.

Jose is survived by his loving wife Maria Asuncion Ramirez of 54 years, his five children Mary Muñoz and son-in-law Johnny Muñoz, Onofre Ramirez and daughter-in-law Adela Ramirez, Ana Icela Ramirez and son-in-law Cesar Guerrero, Horacio Ramirez and daughter-in-law Elizabet Ramirez, Doria Garcia and son-in-law Johnny Garcia; and thirteen grandchildren Alexis Muñoz, Joshua Muñoz, Ian Muñoz, Alberto Ramirez, Ariana Ramirez, Ashley Guerrero, Kevin Ramirez, Noah Ramirez, Alexander Ramirez, Justine Garcia, Nathan Garcia, Khloe Garcia. He is pre-deceased by his parents Salvador Ramirez and Ana Maria Ramirez and his granddaughter Anissa Guerrero.
