José (Joe) Modesto Martinez

José Modesto Martinez, age 93, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and family on Tuesday May 11, 2021. José was born in Vallecitos, New Mexico. After graduating from the University of New Mexico, he moved to Southern California to begin his career as an engineer in the aerospace industry. He spent the majority of his career with Hughes Aircraft where he was an integral part of the surveyor program. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1949. He was a committed member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church since 1966.

He was pre-deceased by his sons John, Daniel and David and his daughter Jane. Surviving José are: his loving wife of 70 years, Grace; daughters Laura, Patricia George, Teresa (Peter) Hernandez and Victoria; and daughter-in-law Debra. He is also survived by many family members, including 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, his sister Margaret, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation for family will be held at Green Hills Mortuary on Friday May 28, 2021. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 9AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in San Pedro, California.

Donations in his honor may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
