Johnnie "John" Lee Best

July 12, 1943 — October 15, 2019

John Best passed away at home at the age of 79. He was born in Henessey, Oklahoma in 1943 to Ethel and LeRoy Best. They moved from Oklahoma to Southern California. John played football for Lakewood High School, attended Long Beach City College then enlisted in the Air Force. He served two years in Korea and his final two years in Massachusetts where he met his wife, Jane. After being discharged, they were married and drove across the country on their honeymoon to relocate to Southern California. They had one child, Brian.

John was a very devoted father, volunteering in Boy Scouts as the Troop Advancement Chairman and in the High School Band Booster Club. He was always willing to help others and to give his time selflessly. In addition to supporting his family his hobbies included astronomy, backpacking, and traveling. He also enjoyed drawing and dancing. John’s career was as a computer programmer.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jane; his son Brian and his wife Aimee along with two grandchildren, Alexandra and Dominic.

Reception immediately following service @ St. Cyprian Catholic Church.
