John Michael Stephens 81, passed away on April 23,2025, in Torrance, California, after a long and courageous battle from complications from tonsil cancer. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. John's life was marked by service, dedication, and a deep love of his family.
Born on July 8th,1943 in Columbia, Mississippi and grew up in Kenner, Louisiana. He grew up with a strong sense of duty and curiosity that would guide him throughout his life. He proudly served in the Air Force as a flight repair mechanic as an Airman Second Class. He completed training at the Lackland Air Force base in Amarillo,Texas. Further assignments given from the McConnell base in Kansas. His role as flight mechanic reflected his lifelong fascination
with aviation and machinery. After completing his military service in 1968, John came to California to visit his brother Tom. That trip would change the course of his life forever. While there, he met his wife Christine - who worked for Tom and the two quickly fell in love. They eloped in February 1969 and began building a life together rooted in love and mutual respect. For their 25th anniversary they renewed their vows in a deeply meaning ceremony at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Boula Portuna, County Galway, Ireland. John dedicated nearly 4 decades as a security officer at TRW/Northrop Grumman. Known for his reliability and work ethic, he became a trusted presence within the company. After retiring, he continued to stay active by working at harbor golf. A fitting role for someone who loved the game so much. In his early
years he enjoyed building and flying remote control planes. A hobby that combined his technical skills with his passion for flight. Later hobbies included World War II and all history in general, LSU Football, target practice and remote control war tanks and spending time with the grandsons. He also enjoyed his special quiet time with his granddaughter. He will be sadly missed by his wife Christine, son Sean Stephens and wife Anna, daughter Sarah (Stephens) Markland and her husband Shane; grandsons Sullivan Stephens, Finnegan Markland, Smith Markland; and granddaughter Maggie Stephens; brother Pat Stephens and his wife Melanie; as well as nephews a niece and friends. He was preceeded in death by brothers Tom and Sam. A man of quiet strength and unwavering loyalty, John will be
remembered for the love he gave so freely to those around him. His legacy lives on through the family he nurtured and the memories they now hold dear. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him. A prayer service will be held on May 14, 2025 from 2:00-3:00pm in the White Chapel at Green Hills Mortuary. 27501 S Western Ave., Palos Verdes.
