John was born in San Pedro, California in 1935 to John and Mary (Berkovich) Radine. He passed on October 4, 2024, after battling cancer.
His love of sports began at San Pedro Boys Club, while attending Mary Star of the Sea Catholic school, then graduated in 1953 from San Pedro High School, in a class that remained close throughout the years. He was always a Pirate. After high school, John attended Harbor College where he excelled in football to become co-captain of his team.
He was drafted into the US Army and served two years in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, with friendships that continued throughout his life.
He married Sandra Anderson Oreb in December of 1964. He had multiple jobs before working at her father’s company, Liberty Appliance.
Marko Pesusich, longtime friend, assisted John to find his way to the waterfront. In 1969, John became a member of ILWU Local 13. After many years of hard work, he was promoted to Local 94, more hard work. He loved his job and numerous friends that he greatly missed upon his retirement in 2009.
Things he loved; his family, friends, hunting pheasant in Iowa, on Sandra’s cousin's farm, concerts, which were sometimes three per week after working all day. Also, going to the movies with Kelly Holt. John was thoughtful, kind, generous and the most knowledgeable human being. A very complete man.
John was preceded in death by John Radine [Father] Mary Radine [Mother] and David Radine [son][drowned], many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra; two sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony and Susie, Chuck and Denise, Lori, Widow of predeceased David; daughter Jamie and husband Andy Harlin; grandchildren, Johnny (Tabatha), Stacie (Ben), Brittany (Joe), Damian, Madison, Devon; great grandchildren, Tanner, Ryann, Holden, Zane and Vann; three step grandsons and one step great grandson and sister, Jacqueline Boller, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
