John Dennis Plut M.D, an orthopedic surgeon who practiced in Torrance, California, died Dec. 15 of intracranial hemorrhage. He was 75. He was born in Port Townsend, Washington, the son of the late Harriet Caroline Olson and Arthur Joseph Plut. He was delivered by his uncle Dr. Harry Plut, who inspired John to a career in medicine. He was educated at parochial schools in Seattle and graduated from Seattle University in 1965. It was there that he met his wife, the former Karen Bernice Schneider. They were married more than 51 years. Dr. Plut received his medical degree from the University of Washington and did both his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at Harbor General Hospital in Torrance, where he was one of three doctors chosen from a pool of over 2,000 applicants. For 30 years, he was in a joint practice with Richard Shrader and George Harunk. In 2006, he started his own practice in Torrance, retiring in September 2018. He was a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. In addition to having a great love of medicine, Dr. Plut enjoyed growing vegetables in his backyard garden, and was an avid fly fisherman. He is survived by his widow, his children Stephany Ann Plut Prodromides (Christopher), Heather Kristine Plut Di Romaldo (Eddie), David Andrew Plut (Rachel), and Ian Christopher Plut, and grandchildren Rowan, Zoe and Eve Prodromides and Kailee, Violet and Charlotte Plut. His funeral is set for 11 a.m. January 4 at St. John Fisher Church in Rancho Palos Verdes. The rosary will be held Jan. 3, at 7 p.m. also at the church, with viewing available from 6:15 to 8 p.m..
