San Pedro native, John Joseph Onorato III (Joey or Jojo to those who knew him best), passed away unexpectedly on March 29, 2023. A kind and generous heart stopped beating far too soon. A proud member of ILWU Local 13, Joey was preceded in death by his daughter, Jolinda Vanessa Onorato, and is survived by his son, Joey Andrew Onorato, parents, Linda and John Joseph Onorato, Jr., and sister Cari Ann Onorato, as well as his niece Dahlia, nephews, Jacob, Justin, Jeremy, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and numerous other family members and dear friends, by whom he was beloved.
As a youth, Joey was very athletic and participated in soccer, football, baseball, and motocross, which he greatly enjoyed and at which he excelled.
Joey had an infectious smile for everyone who crossed his path and was known for his big-hearted ways. He was generous with his money, donating to local youth organizations and he was always ready and willing to help the elderly, usually doing so quietly without any desire for recognition.
Joey was a tinkerer who loved to take objects apart and put them back together, figuring out how things worked and sometimes surprising his family, but his passion was to restore whatever he could.
Joey will be greatly missed by all of those who loved him.
