John Ohanian of Palos Verdes passed away on November 26 at the age of 101. His surviving family members include his wife, Grace Ohanian, his son Christopher Ohanian, his grandson Alexis Ohanian, great granddaughters Olympia and Adira Ohanian, granddaughter Chloe Silverman and great granddaughter Phoebe Vitalis.
A native of Binghamton, NY John earned a BA and a Bachelor of Civil Law degree from William & Mary. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1943 to 1945.
John worked as an attorney with the Federal Trade Commission from 1951 until 1972 in both Washington DC and San Francisco. In 1972 he and his family moved from DC to LA, where he worked as an Administrative Law Judge at HEW until 1982. In 1978 he wrote a decision that the Bakersfield City School system had intentionally segregated minority students from white students. In 1982 he opened a private practice as an attorney who specialized in SSI cases. He continued to practice law into his middle 90's.
A funeral service will take place at St John Fisher Church, located at 5448 Crest Rd, Rancho Palos Verdes on Wednesday December 13 at 11:00 AM.
