John Robert Odom

John Robert Odom, the son of Ralph and Hazel Odom, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2013 at the age of 84. Born on June 4, 1929 in Shreveport, Louisiana, he grew up during the depression years in the South and later moved with his family to Southern California. He attended Huntington Park High School where he played quarterback for the varsity football team. After graduating high school he entered military service. John trained as a paratrooper and served in the US Army Air corps. Subsequent to his honorable discharge from the military, John served nearly 30 years as a member of the Los Angeles Police Department. Thereafter he was employed in the aerospace industry several years. He was a long time resident of Torrance, California. John is survived by his beloved wife, Carolynn; son, Gary; step-daughter, Tracey Toma and grandsons Robert, Thomas and Christopher Odom, numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Friday October 25, 2013 11:00am at South Bay Community Church 2549 W. 190th Street Torrance, California 90504. Casual/Hawaiian attire.
