John Vernon Landry

November 19, 1925 — March 1, 2014

John Vernon Landry, age, 88 of Rolling Hills Estates, CA, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2014, after a brief battle with heart disease. He was the beloved husband of Kathleen Louise Landry for 68 years. John was born in Port Neches, Texas in 1925. He was the son of the late H.P. "Shorty" and Eunice Landry. John attended school in Port Neches and started college before serving in both the U.S. Merchant Marine and the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Kathleen Tynan of Nederland, Texas, in 1946 and received his Bachelor's Degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Texas A & M University in 1948 (class of '46). In 1948 John and Kathleen moved to California to work for North American.
John is survived by his wife Kathleen, and two children, Janice Kelford of Rolling Hills Estates, CA and Charles Landry of Anaheim Hills, CA; and six grandchildren. He also leaves behind a multitude of nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.
John's gift to all his survivors is his integrity. His first choice in action was always the highest ethical outcome for all who might be involved. He was a 'born engineer', loved to tinker and had a garage full of tools. He was a collector of specialized equipment that he would loan out if there was a good chance he could replace the current model with something more exotic. John was always happy to help others solve problems of a practical nature, just so you followed his directions.

John's service will be held Thursday, March 6th at 11:00am at St. John Fisher Catholic Church in Rancho Palos Verdes. A reception will follow in the Fireside Room at St. John Fisher. In lieu of flowers please donate to Holy Family Services Adoption Agency, 840 Echo Park, Los Angeles. CA 90026.
