John Forster Hunter

August 31, 1923 — August 7, 2015

John Forster Hunter was born in Wishaw, Scotland, on August 31st, 1923, to Charles and Harriet Hunter. He came to the U.S. at the age of 3, where his family settled in Follansbee, West Virginia. After graduating from Follansbee High School, he went to work at Follansbee Steel before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1942, where he served our country until 1946. He then headed west to the Los Angeles area, landing a job with United Airlines, where he worked from 1947 through 1988. Yes, 41 years. It was while attending the wedding of a fellow UAL employee and life-long friends Steve and Valera Braun that he met the girl of his dreams. He married Frances Brandner in 1951. August 19th would have been their 64th wedding anniversary. Since 1968, John has been an active member of Zion Lutheran Church. John was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his sisters, Janet Hayes and Mary Morgan, and his brothers, Charles and Robert. He is survived by his wife Frances, son Tim and wife Victoria, daughter Terri and her husband Darrell and daughter Debra. Granddaughter Christina and husband Ryan, grandson Matthew and wife Anna, grandson Tyson, granddaughter Megan, granddaughter Laura and great-grandchildren Lillybeth and Joey. Visitation will be held 3pm - 8pm Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at Green Hills Mortuary, and funeral services will be held 1pm Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at Green Hills Memorial Chapel.
