John Henry Glass

December 19, 1936 — February 23, 2020

John Henry Glass, 83, succumbed to cancer on Sunday, February 23, 2020 in his home in Harbor City, California, with his loving wife by his side. His last words, “Now is the time”.

John is survived by his wife Rose of 40 years, son (Kevin Glass), stepdaughter (Toni Parr), a brother and sister, and many loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. John was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend to everyone.

John was born December 19, 1936, in Oakgrove, Louisiana to his parents Gerthreen and Walker Glass. At a young age he moved to Seattle, Washington with his mother where he found a love for football and played on his high school team, military and served4 years in the United States Air Force.

He married at a young age and had a son, Brian Craig, who preceded him in death. He wanted to see the world, so he decided to join the Merchant Marines, which allowed him to visit many places including Hawaii, Japan, Thailand, and Egypt, just to name a few.

He eventually settled in California, and made Harbor City his home. He worked at Todd Shipyard, then later McDonnell Douglass, and it was during this time that he met and married his current wife, Rose Glass, to whom he has been married for forty years. John’s career ended at MTA, where he worked as a bus driver until his retirement in 2014.

John will forever be remembered as a hard-working family man that provided for the people that he loved. In his last days, he displayed great courage in facing his illness and would want people to remember him as the strong guy that would not give up without a fight.

John, you will be forever loved. Rest Peacefully….
