John Richard Doll

John Richard Doll passed away Friday, September 23, 2011. To all that knew him he was full of life, humor, optimism and of a giving spirit. John, the second son of Barnabus Joseph and Marie Doll, was born August 2, 1923 in Marion County, Indiana. He served in the Army during WW II. While serving, he met his first wife Mary in Atlanta, GA. They were together 36 years until she passed away in 1985. He left the Army to study Electrical Engineering and Radio Electronics at Georgia Tech and went on to become a part of the California aerospace industry for the next 35 years, which included work on many communication satellites, the Apollo 11 mission and the Triton missiles. He retired in 1985. John married his second wife, Dorothy in 1986. He enjoyed his retirement years with traveling, bowling, walking, playing bridge, and volunteering. John freely gave of his time to his church and many local charities. He became a big part of the Shaw House, a local women's shelter, helping with the transportation, and physical maintenance of the facility for over 19 years. John is survived by his wife Dorothy of 25 years, his brother Oscar Doll in Indiana, daughters Beverly Geary, Phyllis Campbell, and his son Larry. His surviving grandchildren are Bryan, Daysha, Zebadia, Rueben, John-Anthony, Jarred, and Mikayla. His surviving stepchildren are Mary Ann Cottrell, Mark, James and Karen Milhon. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 30, 11:00 AM at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 1648 West Ninth Street, San Pedro, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to either St. Peter's or Providence Little Company of Mary, San Pedro, CA.
