Joe Y. Martinez

Joe Y. Martinez 89, of Fontana California passed away on Thursday October 15th 2015 at his home. He was born in Stockton California on May 11th 1926, the son of Joe Martinez and Isabel Ybarra. He lived in San Pedro from 1930's - 1950's where he went to middle and high school and met his wife Jessie. Joe Y. Martinez was retired, and some of his many accomplishments was as a restaurant owner, flight engineer, diesel engine sales and airplane mechanic. He worked for Douglas Aircraft for a number of years on the C-124 fleet. He was an U.S. Army Air Corp veteran, who served in Germany during WWII from 1946 - 1948. He had a lifelong love of flying and earned his pilot's license during the 1940's. He was the Post Commander of The Veterans of Foreign War Post #8737 from 2001-2004. He was also a member of the American Foreign Legion. He also served as a Fontana Police Dept. volunteer.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his newborn son Rickey Martinez. Also preceded in death by his wife Jessie Martinez, they were married from 1948-2000 when she passed. Survivors include one brother Gary Garber (Pete) of Maryland , three daughters Darlean Oclaray, Elaine Martinez Curry, and Marilyn Talavera all of California, and two sons Richard (Rick) J. Martinez of Missouri and Michael (Mickey) Martinez of California. He was an incredible father of 5, grandfather of 8, great grandfather of 7, great-great grandfather of 2. This wonderful and loving man is no longer in pain and can now spend eternity with his true love Jessie. He will be missed by many and loved by all. Joe is now flying Jessie in his plane on a long and beautiful flight to heaven. He now walks in the hand of the Lord. ""Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord." For those that would love to attend, services will be Monday October 26 at Green Hills Chapel and Cemetery in Rancho Palos Verdes (San Pedro). Viewing we be 11-12 noon. Services at 1- 2pm in chapel. Burial at 2pm with a special gravesite tribute at 2:30pm. For those unable to attend please keep him in your heart, prayers and thoughts.
