Jennie P. Doumak

January 2, 1916 — February 6, 2016

Jennie P. Dournak, a loving Mother and adoring Yiayia (Grandmother), was born on January 2nd 1916 in Los Angeles, California and passed away February 6th 2016, a month after her 100th birthday. She was preceded in death by her Husband, Alexander James Doumak in 1977. Theirs was a great love. She was the only daughter of Theoharis and Malamatenia Peratis who were Greek immigrants. Jennie was the 2nd of 4 siblings, Tom Peratis, Jim Peratis and Spyro Peratis and survived them all. Jennie is survived by her three children, James Alexander Domnak, Marguerite Joanne Doumak and Michael Christopher Doumak and her five grandchildren, Shaun Alexander Doumak, Danielle Doumak Pelargos, Alex Doumak, Nick Doumak and Gabriel Doumak. Jennie loved her family deeply and was generous both in money and time.
Jennie was a big proponent for St Sophia Camp and served as cook and infirmary personnel. She was an extremely organized bookkeeper and served as Treasurer for many years for the St Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral's Philoptohos Society. Jennie was very humble and selfless never seeking the spotlight. She was honored as "Mother of the Year" by the Philoptohos Society in the 1970's but was mostly celebrated for how much love she put into her wonderful greek cooking, which all of her grandchildren looked forward to with delight. She loved teaching her great cooking skills to her family including her nieces and she made sure you did it right!
If she wasn't cooking she was dancing greek as often as she could at all the wonderful family gatherings. Jennie enjoyed traveling and planning the best trips anyone could imagine with her children and grandchildren. She took great pride in learning how to use all of the new technology and was better at it than some of the younger folk. Jennie was loved, admired and respected by all who knew her. This elegant and gracious lady will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
Jennie's Trisarion will be held at St Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Los Angeles on Pico and Normandie on Friday Feb 12th at 7pm. The Funeral will be held at 11am on Saturday Feb 13th at the Cathedral. In lieu of flowers please donate to St Sophia's Greek Orthodox Philoptohos Society.
