Javauda Riggs, 86, of Torrance, passed away April 16, 2013, at her home in Torrance, California, surrounded by her loved ones. Graveside service will be held Saturday, April 20th, at noon, at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes. Javauda was born in Roswell, New Mexico, to J.E. and Pearl Brasher on February 11, 1927. She attended school in Roswell until she moved to Eugene, Oregon, and was graduated from Eugene High School. Javauda loved traveling with her late husband and friends, spent many happy hours working in her garden, and was a wonderful cook and an avid reader. She was active in P.T.A. and Girl Scouts of America, and was the leader of both of her daughters' Girl Scout troops. After her children were out of school, she went to work at the DMV, where her patience and good sense of humor were put to good use. She was devoted to her granddaughter, Megan Keavney, and cherished their time together. Javauda was known for her kindness and generosity, and was always ready to help out friends and neighbors. Javauda is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Burnal C. Riggs Jr., of Torrance; her devoted daughter, Sherrelyn J. Riggs of Buena Park; her nephew Richard Brasher of Southlake, Texas; and her sister-in-law Delma Brasher of Abilene, Texas. She is survived by her loving daughter, Susan Keavney, her granddaughter Megan Keavney and her son-in-law Richard Keavney of Torrance; her brother Jerry Brasher of Abilene, Texas; her nephew Steven Brasher of Abilene, Texas; her brother-in-law Robert (Gene) Riggs and niece Kerrin Riggs of Springville, CA, and her nephew Robert Riggs of Monterey, CA. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Torrance Memorial Hospice for their care over the last two years. In lieu of flowers, honor donations can be made to one of Javauda's favorite charities, the ASPCA.
