Janice Lynn (Medina) Wilks, was a Native of San Pedro born December 5, 1951. There she was raised and lived for over 20 years. She and her husband also lived in Arizona and Carson. Janice attended Park Western and Point Fermin Elementary School, Dana Jr. High and graduated from San Pedro High School Winter 1969.
After graduating High School she went on to work – her first job was at Lucky Market, San Pedro. She then went on to work at Diesel Control in Wilmington where she met her husband, Don Wilks.
Janice and her husband moved to Arizona for a time and in 1977 returned to San Pedro, where Janice worked for Nankang Rubber Tire Co. Janice and her husband started their own business – D W Controls and worked out of their home in Carson.
July 5, 1985 Janice gave birth to her only son, Jeffrey Dayton Wilks – she was a stay at home mom and then eventually began working for their business, D W Controls - which had moved from an at-home business to a commercial building in Long Beach, CA.
In the Late 1990's Janice owned and operated a small restaurant at Ports O'Call Village, called The Village BBQ Corral. The business closed after a few years, and returned to working at D W Controls.
Janice continued to own and operate DW Controls, after the death of her husband until the business closed.
Janice was also Past President of the Wilmington Little League. Her hobbies included making arts and crafts, collecting Barbie Dolls. She also started a small home business making hand sewn aprons, pillows and various items.
Due to failing health; the loss of her husband and sale of their business she struggled with her health for several years.
On Wednesday, March 13, 2013, she lost her battle with liver and lung disease.
Janice was strong in the spirit of the Lord she always had kind words for everyone and often asked people if she could pray for them.
Janice is survived by: her son, Jeffrey Wilks; Mother: Joan Medina; Siblings: Linda Medina; Michael Medina; Debra Medina; Annette Medina-Freeman (Tim); Richard Medina (Kim); Doris (Medina) Shields;
Several nieces and nephews: Heidi Maddock; Dexter Maddock; Christopher Medina; Aaron Medina; Gabriel Medina (Rachel) ; Daniel Shields-Kapua (Jason); Tad Shields.
Great nieces and nephews: Angelica Kangas-Maddock; Jonathan Maddock; Hope and Hayley Freeman; Kiera Medina; Jade and Ruby Maddock; Ava Medina; Lillian Kapua.
