Janet Moylan

April 1, 1927 — March 29, 2013

Janet Marilyn Moylan, nee Sheperd, passed away peacefully on March 29, at her home surrounded by her family. Born in Toledo, Ohio, Janet moved to Torrance in 1976 with her husband Jim and four sons. She was a faithful member of St. Lawrence Martyr parish for 37 years. With her quiet strength, she made a difference in the lives of many women through her volunteer work at the House of Hope in San Pedro.

In 1949, Janet received her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Mary Manse College, where she played basketball. She had a brief career as a chemist before marrying and raising four wonderful sons. She and Jim were avid sailors and bridge players. She had a particular talent for applying her knowledge of chemistry to baking.

She was predeceased by her husband, Jim. She is survived by her brother, Father Raymond Sheperd, her sons John (Peggy), Tom (Jill), James (Maritza), and Bill (Sue), as well as her grandchildren Kristy, Brad, Sean, and Megan. She also leaves many beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, April 4 from 5:00 to 9:00 pm at the Green Hills Memorial Chapel, at 27501 S. Western Ave., Rancho Palos Verdes. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 5 at 10:00 am at St. Lawrence Martyr parish at 1900 South Prospect Ave, Redondo Beach. Contributions in Janet's memory may be sent to the House of Hope, P. O. Box 921, San Pedro, CA 90733.
